Dr. Charles S. Guernsey is currently the medical director of Southern Michigan Pain Consultants, PC a multi-disciplinary pain management practice with offices in Kalamazoo, Marshall and St. Joseph, Michigan. Dr. Guernsey received his BA degree in Psychology from the University of Illinois, Chicago.
He received his DO degree and completed a Psychiatry fellowship from the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1976. Dr. Guernsey completed his pain management fellowship from the University of South Carolina in 1995. He is board certified in anesthesiology and holds a certificate of added qualification in pain management.
Dr. Guernsey has a passion for teaching and currently holds an appointment as clinical Associate professor in the Department of Osteopathic Surgical Specialties of the College of Osteopathic Medicine, Michigan State University. He is an advocate and spokesperson for the adoption of disease management principles, application of evidenced based medicine practice and information technology support in pain management.
Dr. Guernsey has a significant interest in bioethics and professionalism. He is the chair of the Michigan Osteopathic Association's Bioethics Committee. Given the need to understand the "business of medicine" Dr. Guernsey completed an MBA from the University of Tennessee in 2006.
