Costin Institute, Scholar Cohort 3
Gail Feinberg, DO, FACOFP, completed her medical training at the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific in 1984, a Rotating Internship at Michigan Osteopathic Medical Center in Detroit, Michigan, and a Family Practice Residency at JFK Memorial Hospital, Stratford, New Jersey, in 1987. After working for UMDNJ for two years, she moved to Ironton, Ohio to fulfill her NHSC obligation at a Federally Qualified Health Center. She served as Medical Director for the FQHC for 11 years, and for the past 6 years has worked for Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Ashland, Kentucky, as an Outreach Physician. In addition, in October, 2005, she was appointed Program Director/Residency Director and Director of Medical Education for the hospital and its rotating internship and family practice residency.
Dr. Feinberg's areas of interest are rural medicine, and access to medical care. She sought the Costin Institute after her appointment as Director of Medical Education; as she wanted to fully define her role as a DME/program director for an independent hospital as it relates to medical student education. She continues to teach (as she has since completing her residency), and is currently associate clinical faculty at PCSOM, WVSOM, OUCOM, and Marshall University School of Medicine. She was named Fellow in the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians in 1996, and has served as Delegate to ACOFP from Kentucky for the past 10 years. In addition, she has served on the Board of Directors of the Kentucky Osteopathic Medical Association since 1990, having served 3 terms as president, most recently in 2000-2002.
