Stephen M. Scheinthal earned his bachelors degree from Brandeis University in Waltham, MA. He completed his doctor of osteopathy degree from University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-School of Osteopathic Medicine (UMDNJ-SOM) in Stratford, New Jersey. He completed his internship at John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospitals-University Medical Center and a psychiatry residency and a geriatric psychiatry fellowship, both at UMDNJ-SOM.
Present appointments currently held by Dr. Scheinthal include Director of Clinical Geriatric Psychiatry at UMDNJ-SOM Center for Aging, where he provides outpatient and long-term care services to the elderly and works as Director of the Memory Assessment Program at UMDNJ. Dr. Scheinthal is medical director of an Arden Courts, Alzheimer's Disease assisted living facility and Co-Medical Director of the Behavioral Management Unit at Silver Care Center in Cherry Hill, NJ.
Dr. Scheinthal is a fellow of the American College of Neurology and Psychiatry and the College of Physicians of Philadelphia. He is the recipient of a Geriatric Academic Career Award from the Health Resources Service Administration and has been recognized as a "Top Doc" in geriatric psychiatry both by South Jersey Magazine and Philadelphia Magazine.
Dr. Scheinthal has expertise in the areas of dementia, behavior management, and long-term care and has published and presented nationally. Dr. Scheinthal has been published in professional journals such as the Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry and Neurology, has discussed geriatric mental health both on radio and television, and has delivered more than 150 lectures and presentations.
