Arizona Regional Brain Bee Returns In-Person at Midwestern University

On Wednesday, March 2nd, Midwestern University welcomed 28 of the state’s top high school students for the 23rd Annual Arizona Regional Brain Bee, an educational competition similar to a spelling bee that focuses on neuroscience. The 2022 Arizona Regional Brain Bee at Midwestern University was presented in partnership with the BHHS Legacy Foundation.

Midwestern University Community Raises Funds to Support Cancer Research

Midwestern University students, faculty members, and community residents raised more than $42,000 to battle childhood cancer as part of an annual “St. Baldrick’s Shave for a Change” fundraiser held at Ballydoyle Irish Pub in downtown Downers Grove in March. Students from the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine (CCOM) organized the event where 35 people had their heads shaved in solidarity with children who are experiencing the effects of cancer treatments.

CDMI Students Earn Delta Dental of Illinois Scholarship

Midwestern University in cooperation with the Delta Dental of Illinois Foundation is pleased to announce the recipients of a scholarship intended to foster student body diversity and extend opportunities for healthcare students from underrepresented minority groups. Two dental medicine students — Azha Scott-Leblanc of Houma, Louisiana, and Emma Tello of Cudahy, California — were each awarded a $50,000 Delta Dental of Illinois Diversity Admissions Scholarship to attend Midwestern University’s College of Dental Medicine-Illinois (CDMI).

Abrazo Partners with Midwestern University for Family Medicine Clinic

Midwestern University has partnered with Abrazo Health to operate the Abrazo Family Medicine Residency clinic located on the Abrazo Central Campus in north central Phoenix. Clinic ownership and operation was transferred to the University effective January 2, 2023, and it has been renamed the Midwestern University Comprehensive Care Clinic – Central Phoenix, Abrazo Family Medicine Residency Training Site.

Groovin in the Grove Race Tradition Continues at Midwestern University

The annual Groovin in the Grove 5K Run & Walk at Midwestern University was held May 6, 2023, on the Downers Grove campus, and raised $3,000 for Sharing Connections, a nonprofit organization that assists local people in need with furniture and other household items.

Preschool Language Programs Benefit Community

As part of its service to the community, Midwestern University’s Speech-Language Institute offers biweekly programs for children experiencing issues with developmental language, such as delays with speech and articulation. The Little Sprouts program is offered to children between the ages of two and three, and the Shining Stars program is offered to children between the ages of three and five. Six Midwestern University students in the Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) Program are involved in the programs. Each student is assigned two children to target specific speech and language goals, and the students are supervised by Cindy Krizizke, M.S., CCC-SLP, Clinical Assistant Professor, Speech-Language Pathology.

PharmAcademy Introduces High School Students to Pharmacy Careers

PharmAcademy is an event held by the College of Pharmacy, Downers Grove (CPDG) at Midwestern University to inform high school students about various aspects of a pharmacy career, as they contemplate their future college options. The event was attended by 39 students from Chicago and the surrounding suburbs, and held under the direction of Sheila Wang, Pharm.D., BCPS, BCIDP, Professor, Pharmacy Practice at the College of Pharmacy.
