RESEARCH SUMMARY

A voyage, herpes virus entry into host cell: Viral entry into susceptible host cells typically results from multivalent interactions between virus envelope glycoproteins and host entry receptors. In case of herpes simplex virus (HSV) which causes multiple clinical manifestations from cold sores, corneal blindness, to encephalitis, involves the interaction between four viral envelope glycoproteins (gB, gD, gH-gL) and specific cell surface receptor (nectin, herpesvirus entry mediator protein; HVEM and 3-O sulfated heparan sulfate; 3-OS HS). The work in our laboratory is focused on understanding the molecular mechanism of viral entry into host cell with the goal to develop novel therapeutic interventions.
