Message from the Dean

Consider Joining Tomorrow's Healthcare Team

Dear Future Colleague,

Melissa Suckow

I am pleased that you are considering Midwestern University as your future academic home on your professional journey to becoming an optometrist. Optometry continues to grow and expand its scope.  Here at the Chicago College of Optometry, we stay grounded in the present with an eye on the future as well. The Chicago College of Optometry utilizes state-of-the-art equipment and facilities to prepare you for current practice and beyond.

At Midwestern University, our students work closely with faculty members who are committed to teaching and mentoring you. We like to think of ourselves as one big family. In addition, our students are encouraged to serve their community as part of the clinical healthcare team at the Midwestern University Eye Institute and through diverse volunteer opportunities. Supported by a team of faculty experts and advanced technology in the classroom, simulation labs, and at the clinic, optometry students gain a hands-on education focused on the osteopathic medicine philosophy of treating the whole patient, not just the disease. This holistic experience prepares our future doctors to provide comprehensive vision care to a wide range of patients.

As a graduate university focusing exclusively on the education of healthcare professionals, Midwestern University students also benefit throughout their course of study from interaction with peers and faculty members from other healthcare disciplines.

We look forward to seeing you on campus!

Melissa A. Suckow, O.D., FAAO
Dean, Chicago College of Optometry
