“I hope students learn that the classroom education they receive can generate phenomenal care for their patients, but combining that with passion, empathy, and drive will create a life-changing experience for themselves and everyone they encounter."

What are your research interests?

Currently, I am interested in research pertaining to the left ventricular non-compaction cardiomyopathy, particularly the current guidelines and emerging therapies for this disease.

What is the most rewarding part of being a member of the Midwestern University faculty?

The most rewarding part of being a member of Midwestern University faculty is collaborating with a team that is so passionate about training future perfusionists, which, in turn, will forever impact countless lives of patients who deal with heart disease. Watching the students grow and learn in the field and hearing how their education is being put to use in the surgical setting is not only rewarding, but pushes me to continue developing and improving on the educational opportunities I am fortunate enough to contribute to.

How do you engage students in the learning process?

My favorite way to engage students in the learning process is to incorporate all different learning modalities into each lesson. I enjoy the hands-on approach working in the lab and classroom setting, as well as incorporating videos and different types of projects to create a well-balanced educational environment.

What do you hope students learn from your classes?

I hope that students not only learn the facts and background in the different science courses I teach, but also how to incorporate that knowledge into their everyday lives as they continue their career in the medical field.

Why should students enroll at Midwestern University?

Midwestern University is a fantastic school to enroll in for many reasons, including the passionate faculty and staff, renowned programs and educational opportunities, and resources available to students in nearly every aspect imaginable. There are resources for mental health, inclusion, learning facilitators, recreational opportunities, and so much more. It’s an all-encompassing educational facility.

What lessons would you like students to take with them in their professional careers?

I hope students learn that the classroom education they receive can generate phenomenal care for their patients, but combining that with passion, empathy, and drive will create a life-changing experience for themselves and everyone they encounter in their careers.
