Eliana De Luca, Ph.D., D.V.M., Ph.D., DACVM
I am a board-certified Veterinary Microbiologist, with 8 years of experience in the academic and diagnostic fields. Since my DVM undergraduate studies, I worked as an intern at the Virology and Molecular Biology Lab of the University of Teramo (Italy). I then pursued a PhD in " Veterinary Medical Sciences, Public Health, and Animal Welfare" at the same University. I followed with a residency in Clinical Veterinary Microbiology at the Athens Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory of the University of Georgia (USA). I successfully passed the ACVM examinations, becoming an ACVM Diplomate in November 2021. In July 2021, I obtained a master’s degree in " Veterinary infectious diseases, prevention and animal health regulations" at the College of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Naples (Italy). I performed my postdoctoral studies at the Department of Infectious Disease of the University of Georgia (USA) before joining Midwestern University as Assistant Professor of Veterinary Microbiology.

2023 Pharmacy CAREERxPO Offers Students the Opportunity to Shape Their Futures
The College of Pharmacy on the Downers Grove Campus held its annual CAREERxPO, where recruiters from over 35 retail pharmacies, hospitals, and other healthcare organizations made themselves available for students to ask questions about full-time careers, part-time jobs, internships, residencies, and other pharmacy career possibilities. The recruiters included those from several retail pharmacies, a few hospital systems, a remote patient-monitoring company, a pharmacy staffing company, as well as 25 residency programs, many of whom represented multiple programs, and included opportunities in Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, Michigan, and Iowa.

Downers Grove Mayor Honors American Pharmacists Month, Midwestern University College of Pharmacy
Members of the Midwestern University community attended the reading of the proclamation of American Pharmacists Month by Downers Grove Mayor Robert Barnett during the Downers Grove Village Council meeting on October 17, 2023. Pharmacy student Kourtney McKinnon (CPDG ’24) was present along with former executive board members, clinic leaders, and Robert Chapman, Ph.D., Associate Professor, Pharmaceutical Sciences, College of Pharmacy, Downers Grove and American Pharmacists Association Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP) Co-advisor.

Midwestern University SLP Students, Faculty Work to Promote Autism Awareness and Literacy
As part of Midwestern University’s commitment to providing community service and healthcare education, the Speech-Language Pathology Program on the Downers Grove Campus has been instrumental in fostering autism awareness and promoting literacy. Two recent community events underscored this commitment. Faculty from the program presented a community information session on autism and worked with the Midwestern University student chapter of the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association (NSSLHA) as well as faculty and students from the Physician Assistant program, on the Reading Rockstars event and book drive to help children with literacy.

Pickleball Tournament Raised Money and Awareness for Breast Cancer
Midwestern University students in the Endodontics & Periodontal Club CDMI (College of Dental Medicine-Illinois) and the CDMI Wilderness Club hosted the inaugural Halloween-themed Pickle-O-Treat pickleball tournament. Proceeds went to The Pink Agenda, a nonprofit organization that promotes awareness about breast cancer and raises funds for research and healthcare.

Midwestern University Clinics Implement Epic®, Electronic Health Records (EHR) System
As part of its commitment to support the One Health Initiative and embrace evolving technology, the Epic® system was added to bring four separate EHR (Electronic Health Records) for the Dental Institute, the Eye Institute, the Multispecialty Clinic, and the Therapy Institute into one system. Many patients seek care in several departments at the University’s Clinics and the Epic® system creates ease of use. Patients can access their healthcare information in one convenient spot, and reach out to their providers, schedule appointments, view test results, and manage the healthcare needs of their families. In addition, the patient records will be accessible throughout the Midwestern University Clinics to provide better healthcare services and allow for interdisciplinary collaboration on the best treatment for patients.

Social Injustice Event Shows Speech-Language Pathology Students Mindful Healthcare Practices
Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) students and faculty gathered on the Downers Grove Campus for an event to discuss scenarios of social injustice in SLP, and the best course of action to take when they occur. This discussion also prepared students to handle unexpected situations in their future careers. Events like these are a part of Midwestern University’s commitment to fostering patient-centered healthcare practitioners.

Midwestern University Students Attend American Osteopathic Association’s Medical Conference
Several Midwestern University students from the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine (CCOM) went to the annual American Osteopathic Association’s (AOA) OMED (Osteopathic Medical Education Conference) in Florida, where thousands of healthcare professionals, osteopathic physicians, medical students, and undergraduate students gathered. Attendees had the opportunity to learn more about a variety of specialties and meet each other.
