The 2023 Groovin’ in the Grove race had 91 runners signed up, and $3,000 was raised for Sharing Connections.

With a Star Wars themed twist, the annual Groovin’ in the Grove comes back to Midwestern University’s Downers Grove Campus on Saturday, May 4, 2024. The event is open for the local community and Midwestern University faculty, staff, and students to join in. Participation is welcomed and encouraged. Groovin’ in the Grove is co-sponsored by the Student Association of Military Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons (SAMOPS) and the Sports Medicine Club.

“The local community should join the race to collaborate with the Midwestern University community to support their local neighbors and give them the chance to get out and enjoy a fun Saturday morning,” said Nick Maentanis, Assistant Director of Student Activities and Campus Recreation. He added that participation from the Midwestern University community would “support the students organizing the race as well as having the opportunity to enjoy campus events with co-workers and classmates outside of our typical academic settings.”

All proceeds from the race will go to Sharing Connections, a nonprofit organization that assists local people in need with furniture and other household items. And, anyone participating in the race receives a T-shirt and a medal.

This year’s race route will be the same as last year, going through the main campus road. Runners will also have the chance to see the quad and all the corners of the campus at Midwestern University, Mr. Maentanis said.

Registration for this event is open until April 21st. The Groovin’ in the Grove annual 5K race has been traditionally held around Mother’s Day since 1989.
