CCOM Students Recognized for Leadership and Research at AMA Annual Meeting

Students earn leadership appointments, advocacy honors, and research presentation opportunities through the American Medical Association

Students from Midwestern University's Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine (CCOM) earned national recognition and leadership appointments during the 2026 American Medical Association (AMA) Annual Meeting, held June 5–10.

Leadership at the National Level

Second-year medical student Anish Kakarla (CCOM ’28) was elected Region 2 Secretary for the AMA Medical Student Section Executive Board for 2026–2027 and served as Midwestern University's primary delegate at the national meeting.

Chandni Chandiramani (CCOM ’28) received the AMA Region 2 Student Advocate of the Year Award and was appointed to the AMA National Committee on Health Justice for 2026–2027 as the only osteopathic medical student selected. She was also appointed to the AMA Medical Student Section Region 2 Outreach Committee and contributed testimony presented during the Medical Student Section meeting.

Research Presented at National Conference

In addition, Arianna Halani (CCOM ’28) and Chandni presented research on pediatric Guillain-Barré syndrome and chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy during the conference.

Representing Midwestern University

The AMA Annual Meeting brings together physicians and medical students from across the country to shape healthcare policy, share research, and advance medical education. CCOM students participated in educational sessions, research presentations, advocacy activities, and Medical Student Section programming throughout the conference.
