Midwestern University Appoints Dr. Heather Ferrill as New AZCOM Dean

Dr. Ferrill brings deep academic and clinical leadership experience to guide AZCOM's next chapter, starting July 6.

Midwestern University is pleased to announce the appointment of Heather P. Ferrill, D.O., M.S., as the new Dean of the Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine (AZCOM). Dr. Ferrill will assume her new duties on July 6th, 2026.

"Dr. Ferrill's appointment marks the beginning of an exciting new era of leadership that will help shape AZCOM's future," said Y. Gloria Yueh, Ph.D., Provost of Midwestern University. "Dr. Ferrill brings exceptional experience in academic leadership and clinical practice. Her collaborative leadership style, strategic vision, commitment to innovation, and unwavering dedication to student success make her uniquely qualified to lead AZCOM into its next chapter of excellence and growth."

Dr. Ferrill comes to Midwestern with an outstanding track record in institutional leadership, academic excellence, and clinical practice. Dr. Ferrill most recently served with distinction as the Vice President of Faculty Affairs and Dean of the College of Osteopathic Medicine at Rocky Vista University, which has given her a deep understanding of medical school administration and faculty governance. In addition to her executive roles, Dr. Ferrill has served as Professor of Osteopathic Medicine within the Department of Osteopathic Principles and Practice since 2017.

A proud graduate of the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine, Dr. Ferrill holds active board certifications from both the American Osteopathic Board of Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine and the American Board of Family Practice. She completed a Combined Family Medicine/Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine Residency, serving as Chief Resident, and she also served as Chief Intern during her traditional rotating internship at Mercy General Health Partners. Dr. Ferrill also earned a Master of Science in Medical Education and Leadership from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine, demonstrating a career-long dedication to modern, innovative teaching paradigms and student-centered learning.

Dr. Ferrill succeeds Dr. Lori Kemper, D.O., who retired as Dean of AZCOM after 19 years of exceptional service and leadership to both the Midwestern University community and the osteopathic medical profession.
