The training program is organized to allow progressive responsibility in patient care and ensure knowledge and skills related to gastroenterology. Fellows are allowed to learn in multiple settings.
Mission
Mountain Vista Medical Center (MVMC) is a community-based hospital located in Mesa, Arizona, and serves the diverse population of a large catchment area. Our Midwestern University GME Consortium / Mountain Vista Gastroenterology Fellowship Program aims to train outstanding clinicians and endoscopists who will acquire the knowledge and skills needed to treat their patients at the bedside and in the clinic experience. This will be accomplished through the practice of evidence-based medicine, utilizing state-of-the-art equipment, and providing holistic patient care by focusing on clinical, psychological, demographic, and social determinants of diseases. Dedicated clinical faculty are focused on a culture of advanced training, rapidly evolving changes in health care delivery, and newly approved therapies.
Aims
Following the program’s mission to train internists into passionate, clinically skilled gastroenterologists, the program aims to:
- We train our GI fellows to be diligent and knowledgeable about performing endoscopic procedures through didactic and hands-on experience provided by the program director, faculty members, and other specialty rotations.
- Enable our GI fellows to become competent in performing routine endoscopic procedures, including upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopies with therapeutics and the placement of Percutaneous Endoscopic gastrostomies.
- Train fellows to provide quality care to patients receiving interventional gastroenterological procedures by educating them about qualified indications, interpretation of relevant findings, and appropriate clinical follow-up. This includes an efficient and effective Continuity Clinic that facilitates follow-up and monitoring of patient care outcomes resulting from the fellows' care delivery.
- Provide a welcoming academic environment for fellows where reading, writing, speaking, thinking precisely, and asking questions are emphasized.
- Provide guidance and resources to fellows in gastroenterology to ensure success on the American Board of Internal Medicine exams.
- Train fellows to understand current healthcare systems and technology related to providing efficient, safe, and cost-effective medical care to patients
