Articulation Agreement with Fort Hays State University

Qualified Fort Hays State University students may receive guaranteed interview opportunities for the Midwestern University Clinical Psychology Program at the Glendale AZ campus.

Beginning with the class matriculating in fall 2017, the Midwestern University (MWU) Clinical Psychology Program in Glendale, AZ agrees to guarantee interviews and reserve 5 acceptances, in total, for qualified Fort Hays State University (FHSU) applicants per admission year. Applicants must meet all the requirements set forth below for reserved seating consideration. 

If by May 1st of the annual admissions cycle, MWU has not accepted 5 applicants from FHSU, then MWU may offer the remaining seats for that cycle to other applicants. The reserved seats for FHSU students will be reviewed annually with a potential adjustment to the number of seats depending on the total applicant pool from FHSU and the educational progress of students admitted under the articulation agreement.

Requirements for Midwestern University Clinical Psychology Program, Glendale Campus

FHSU students applying for admission to the Clinical Psychology Program, Glendale campus must satisfy the following minimum requirements before the academic year commences for the incoming class:

  • Achieve a minimum of a 3.50 cumulative grade point average ( on a 4.00 =A scale) GPA in their undergraduate coursework;
  • Have received (or be on track to complete and provide proof of completion by [first day of first quarter] of the calendar year when matriculation would occur if accepted) a baccalaureate degree from FHSU;
  • Have completed the minimum number of prerequisite courses (as stated in the Midwestern University Catalog) in the prescribed subject areas at a regionally accredited college or university with a grade of C or better before the program begins;
  • Have taken the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) general tests during the previous five years of the current admission cycle;
  • Have successfully completed two semesters of senior level writing courses;
  • Achieve the standards set forth by the Admissions Committee (including documentation of academic and professional promise in the prospective student);
  • Reflect a people/service orientation through community service or extracurricular activities;
  • Reflect proper motivation for and commitment to health care as demonstrated by previous work, volunteer work, or other life experiences;
  • Possess the oral and written communication skills necessary to interact with patients and colleagues;
  • Abide by the Midwestern University Drug-Free Workplace and Substance Abuse Policy;
  • Pass a criminal background check; and
  • Meet all other admissions requirements set forth by MWU including:
    • Must complete an online application at the Centralized Application Service for Graduate Psychology (PSYCAS) website.
    • Three properly signed and sealed letters of recommendation from professionals who know the applicant well. The Office of Admissions will accept letters from prehealth advisors or committees, science professors, and health professionals.
    • Official transcripts from every undergraduate, graduate, or professional school attended. Each transcript MUST be signed and sealed by the registrar of each institution. 

Additional considerations

International students

International students must complete a minimum of 30 semester hours of coursework in the United States. Of the 30 semester hours, 15 hours must be in the sciences, 6 hours must be in non-remedial English composition, and 3 hours in Speech/Communication. Additional requirements for international students that have been accepted into the Clinical Psychology Program are included in the matriculation agreement.

Final decisions

The final decision on acceptance for applicants shall be up to the discretion of the Clinical Psychology Admissions Committee, subject to approval by both the Program Director and the Dean.

Although we anticipate a long and mutually satisfying relationship between our two educational institutions, this agreement may be discontinued for any reason providing that written notice is given 12 months prior to such discontinuation and that those students who have been accepted under this agreement be permitted to complete their course of study.
